DGRC PrincipleA curved vertical loudspeaker array is the right solution to get a homogeneous SPL and a strong direct sound over the audience. With a digital signal processor (DSP), the array may be rectilinear, thus leading to the concept of DSP column loudspeaker.

StepArray columns implement the DGRC principle (Active Audio Patent), which is a synthesis of geometric and electronic arrays.

SA250P - SPL coverage over the audience - oct 2kHz

homogeneous SPL

Considering the laws of acoustics, one can show that there is approximately a ratio 12 between the column height and the distance range of the column. They use a large number of high quality 3” loudspeakers.

DGRC Principle

Perfect Speech intelligibility / clarity

Even in highly reverberant and/or noisy environments, even far from the column.

Homogeneous sound level

Same SPL may be obtained at 1m, 10m, 20m, and 50m from the column!

Acoustic comfort

Sound is amazingly clear and dynamic, never aggressive, even at high SPL. With its microphone (MIC option), the level of diffusion may be automatically adjusted according to the background noise.

Aesthetics

With their slim shape and a large choice of color, StepArray columns can be made almost invisible.

Cost-effectiveness

Public Address in a large volume requires very few columns. Cabling is reduced to a minimum. Maintenance is easy.

Versatility and ease of use

With the SAdrive control software.

High-level functions

The AGC function adjusts automatically the diffusion level according to the background noise in the room.
The SSS function is designed for Security Sound Systems (SSS) installation (EN-60849 compliance).

Security Sound System (SSS)

When the PA system also ensures the diffusion of emergency / evacuation messages, the system has to comply with the EN60849 standard (acoustic quality in public places) which specifies a minimum level of intelligibility, but also imposes a permanent surveillance of the proper working order of the system. This is called a Security Sound System (SSS). StepArray complies in terms of intelligibility and becomes surveillance compliant by adding the surveillance module SSS.

Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

Automatic Gain ControlAGC allows automatic adjustment of the level of diffusion according to the sound level captured by the microphone when no message is played. Using this function, the sound level perceived by listeners may be adjusted for optimal comfort : moderate level when the background noise is low, higher level when the background noise is high in order to provide good intelligibility.

For example:

  • If the background noise is 75 dBSPL and the AGC enters in action (Threshold) at 65 dBSPL, then the AGC gain will be -2 dB (i.e. -12 + (75-65)),
  • If the background noise is 80 dBSPL, and the AGC enters in action (Threshold) at 65 dBSPL, then the AGC gain will be 0 dB (i.e. MIN(-12 + (80-65) ; 0)).

Sub Woofer (SUB)

In cases where the StepArray system diffuses music, the sound fidelity will be better (roundness and fullness) if a sub woofer and its associated amplifier is added. The sub will be managed by the UT26 processor fitted with the SUB option. This option is not necessary for installations aimed at vocal diffusion since the human voice hardly has component frequencies in the bass range below 150Hz.

Color (COL)

Color chartFor a perfect integration of your installation, choose an appropriate color. View the colors on the color chart*. The standard colors are white (RAL 9016), gray (RAL 9006) and black (RAL 9005). For a particular color, you just have to specify the RAL.

*Warning : colors depend on your screen settings. For better accuracy, it is advisable to get a color chart with a professional.

A simulation model of the sound coverage of the StepArray columns can be done with the acoustic simulation software CATT-Acoustic™, EASE and their corresponding DLL.

Sadrive main

A flexible PC interface

  • New Preset management
Presets are now stored in the processors, so they can be recalled using a remote control (connected to the BAN port).
  • Software updates
SAdrive 2 handles the DSP software updates.
  • Contextual help
Direct access to the on-line contextual help.
  • Connection
The PC can now be connected to the UT26 processors with any USB-RS232 adaptor.

An Enhanced structure management

  • Adding, modifying, removing processors from the structure is more simple.
  • Dual process possibility
A single UT26 processor can be configured as an one single 6 channel process (for 6 channel columns such as models SA250P and SA250S) or a two 3 x channel process (for 3 channel columns such as models SA180P and SA100P).
  • New column models supported
SAdrive 2 supports new column models SA180P and SA250S.
Directivity block

An Upgraded Directivity bloc

  • handles stepped audience area,
  • shows SPL maps in horizontal and vertical plans,
  • shows SPL maps in all octave bands and in the “voice band” (500Hz-2kHz), has cursors.
  • The bass response of the columns can be extended with this bloc, and the Sub output can be switched On/Off.
  • An antilarsen algorithm has been implemented in the DSPs.
